The Daily Practice of Sovereign Awareness
Knowing the I AM Presence is only the beginning.
Living from it is where your life begins to change.
Many people spend years searching for external answers—new techniques, new teachers, new philosophies—while overlooking the one companion that has remained with them from the moment of birth until this very moment.
Your breath.
Every breath offers an opportunity to return to your centre. Every breath invites you back into the quiet awareness of your true nature.
Within many yogic and tantric traditions, the natural rhythm of breathing has long been associated with the silent mantra So-Hum.
On the inhale…
So
On the exhale…
Hum
This is not something you force or chant aloud.
It is the subtle sound many practitioners perceive within the natural movement of the breath itself.
The Meaning of So-Hum
In Sanskrit, So-Hum is commonly translated as:
“I Am That.”
Or more completely:
“I Am That Infinite Presence.”
For those following the Sovereignty Pathway, you may also recognise another expression of this same truth:
I AM.
Not merely your name.
Not your occupation.
Not your history.
Not your circumstances.
Simply…
I AM.
The eternal awareness that exists before every label and beyond every identity.
The Forgotten Pause
While many people focus on breathing in and breathing out, there is a third part of every breath that is often overlooked.
The pause.
After every exhale…
…before the next inhale…
…there is a brief moment of complete stillness.
Nothing is being taken in.
Nothing is being released.
There is simply presence.
Many contemplative traditions regard this natural pause as a doorway into profound awareness—a moment in which mental activity softens and attention rests in pure observation.
For the Sovereign, this pause symbolises something even deeper.
It represents the space between reaction and conscious choice.
It is the point from which intentional living begins.
Returning to the Sovereign Within
Throughout the day our attention is constantly pulled outward.
Responsibilities.
News.
Financial concerns.
Relationships.
Social media.
Deadlines.
Before long, we begin living almost entirely from reaction instead of intention.
The simple practice of observing the breath gently interrupts this cycle.
Instead of being carried away by thought, we return to the silent witness behind every thought.
This is what we refer to as the I AM Presence of the Sovereign.
Not an idea.
Not a philosophy.
An experience.
Why the Breath Matters
Modern research has shown that slow, diaphragmatic breathing can activate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system—the “rest and restore” response—helping reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and support clearer thinking.
When the body becomes calm, the mind often follows.
Many ancient traditions recognised this relationship long before modern physiology could describe it.
They understood that a calm breath creates the conditions for a calm mind.
A calm mind creates space for conscious intention.
Planting the Seed
Within the Sovereignty framework, we encourage members to use the natural pause—not to force outcomes—but to establish clear intention.
As your breath settles…
Allow your awareness to rest within the silence.
From that place…
Gently hold a single intention.
Not with desperation.
Not with struggle.
Simply with quiet certainty.
Perhaps it is:
- Greater clarity
- Financial independence
- Better health
- Peace within your family
- Completing an important project
- Living more fully in alignment with your highest values
Hold the intention briefly.
Then release it.
Allow the next breath to arise naturally.
Like planting a seed in fertile ground, your task is not to force growth, but to consistently prepare the conditions in which growth can occur.
A Simple Daily Practice
You do not need complicated techniques.
Begin with just five to ten minutes each day.
Step 1 — Sit Comfortably
Sit upright with your spine relaxed but straight.
Allow your hands to rest comfortably.
Close your eyes if you wish.
Step 2 — Breathe Naturally
Do not force your breathing.
Allow each breath to deepen naturally into the abdomen.
Notice the gentle movement of your belly.
Step 3 — Listen
As you inhale, silently notice:
So
As you exhale:
Hum
Do not repeat the words deliberately.
Simply observe the natural rhythm.
Step 4 — Rest in the Pause
After the exhale…
Notice the brief stillness before the next inhale begins.
Do not hold your breath.
Do not strain.
Simply become aware of the silence that is already there.
Step 5 — Place Your Intention
Within that moment of stillness…
Hold one clear image.
One clear feeling.
One simple intention.
Allow it to arise naturally.
Then let it go.
Trust the process.
Return to the next breath.
Living Beyond the Meditation
The purpose of this practice is not merely to become peaceful for ten minutes each day.
Its purpose is to gradually carry that awareness into every area of life.
While walking.
While working.
While making decisions.
While speaking.
While facing challenges.
Eventually, the practice is no longer something you do.
It becomes the way you live.
You begin responding instead of reacting.
Creating instead of merely coping.
Choosing instead of drifting.
This is what it means to live with the I AM Presence.
Reflection Exercise
At the end of each day, take a few moments to reflect upon the following questions:
- Did I remember my I AM Presence today?
- How often did I return to my breath?
- What intention did I plant today?
- Did my actions reflect that intention?
- Where did I react unconsciously, and how might I respond differently tomorrow?
Small, consistent moments of awareness often produce the greatest long-term transformation.
Final Thought
The breath has been with you since your first moment of life.
It asks nothing of you.
It judges nothing.
It simply invites you, again and again, to return home.
Every inhale whispers possibility.
Every exhale invites release.
Every pause reminds you of the silent Presence that has never left you.
The Sovereign does not seek power outside themselves.
The Sovereign remembers the Presence already within.
From that Presence, every conscious choice becomes the beginning of a new reality.
